Here is a K98 Mauser Manufactured by FN for (IDF) Israeli Defense Force, 7.62 cal.. This rifle is coupled with a very sophisticated telescope made by Wield, it is a quick-detachable telescope which is solid as a rock. It also has a large fiberglass cheek piece to hold your head in-line with the telescope. It has a large rubber buttplate about an inch and a half thick. It has an extended safety similar to the ones the Germans used in WWII. It comes with a scope case with instruction manual in Hebrew, a very fine brush which is used to clean the lenses on the telescope, and a tool for adjusting the elevation and windage knobs. This is one of the most accurate sniper rifles I’ve ever shot.

Condition is very good to excellent.

$3,250.00

The Mauser rifles have a long and successful history in the Israeli Defense Force (IDF) ranks, beginning with the Mauser K98, some of them used even before the deceleration of the Israeli state in 1948, and continuing today with the modern Mauser 66SP and 86SR Sniper Weapons System (SWS), used for urban Counter Terror (CT) applications.

Sporadic samples of the K98 entered service in the IDF during Israel's War Of Independence in 1948. After the war, large masses of the rifle were procured in East Europe and entered service in the IDF.

Some of the rifles bought were German, Originally made by Mauser, but most were Czechoslovakian replicas. At first, only few rifles were used as sniper rifles. Most of rifles were deployed as regular assault rifles. Only in the mid 1950's, with the FN FAL assault rifles becoming the new IDF standard issue primary weapon, all K98 were converted to sniping configuration, outfitted with a Wild X4 scope and a cheek piece and became the standard IDF long sniping rifle.

Due to its inherent accuracy deriving from it unusual 7.92 mm large caliber, and its high quality, the K98 remained as the main IDF sniper rifle up until the late 1970's when it was replaced in this role by the newly arrived M14 SWS.

Today, while the K98 is no longer used by the IDF, it's still used by the Israeli Civilian Guard ("Mishmar Ezrachi - MASAH'Z", in Hebrew) - a civilian voluntary organization, which assists the Israeli Police in maintaining law and order. The Civilian Guard, has several specialized outfits including a small snipers detatchment. These snipers are issued K98 surpluses by the Israeli Police, and are then free to mount modern accessories on their personal rifle as they deem feet.

The fact that this rifles are still used even today, some of them are over 50 years old, is a vivid proof of the very successful original design and impressive ruggedness of the K98.
